For any business organization, no matter the size of its operation, a business plan is an essential document which needs to be created. The business plan provides in detail the different aspects of the business that clearly defines the working and the future prospects of the business. For example this addresses aspects such as the planning of the strategy to develop the business, identifying the target audience/market as well as ways on how to improve and expand the business. The business plan plays an important role when applying for loans or when inviting investors for the business, in addition to helping you understand what exactly the business is about and how much money is required for the establishment of the business.

One of the main attributes to be remembered when creating a business plan is that it should be written in a direct and simple language in order for any person to easily understand. Depending on the nature of the business the main elements, contents, information and the desired objectives of the plan will differ from business to business. However the below mentioned components should be addressed in all business plans.

 Introductory Contents
 Business Description
 Market Description
 Development and Production Description
 Sales and Marketing Plan
 Management and Organizational Structure
 Financial Documents

In the introductory contents section, the business plan should include the cover page, executive summary and the table of contents. The cover page plays an important role since it is the first impression an outsider would get regarding your business. Ensure that the cover page is presentable, attractive and states clearly the words “Business Plan” along with the company name, company logo, postal address, telephone number, fax number and other contact information.

The business description section should be utilized to present to the reader an overview of the industry the business is in, a detailed description of the business along with the products or services it offers and the pricing strategy of the business. The market description section can be soundly presented by dividing it into key factors such as customers, market size/trends and existing competition. The main objective of this section is to ensure that it provides enough facts to convince a reader that the business has the required potential to attract sufficient customers in the market even if the existing competition is high.

The development and production section should be used to describe the current standings of the products and services offered by the business, how it is created and sold as well as how it can be further developed. You should also present a detailed segment regarding the cost of production and development along with labor requirements and capital/expenses requirement in this section. In the sales and marketing section all sales and marketing programs as well as strategies which would be employed by the business, should be clearly mentioned. The three main components which need to be addressed in this section are the sales and marketing strategy, method of sales and advertising and promotion.

The business type and/or the business hierarchy should be described under the management section of the business plan. Also you can mention any support services which your business may rely on such as consultants, attorneys, accountants and advertising agencies under this section. The financial documents sections is a vital segment of the business plan since it provides the monetary credibility of your business. This section should be included with statements and documents that clearly show the businesses assets, liabilities, cash balances and other liquid assets if any. The cash flow statement, balance sheet and income statement are the main financial documents which should be included.

Finally you can also add an appendix section to the business plan if there are any other documents, statements or support materials related to the business which need to be included in the plan. Being as detailed, descriptive and factual as possible is the best way to create a successful business plan.
