Susan is standing in the wings getting ready to give her speech. At the podium is the speaker before her; a woman in her mid-thirties who is dressed beautifully, speaks eloquently and has a huge following. She is a successful entrepreneur and business woman in her own right. Susan becomes more nervous as she waits, listening to the words of her biggest competition. Biting her nails and fussing with her blouse she begins to feel a wave of insecurity come over her. She looks at the presenter and thinks Clearly she has not had to struggle the way I have to succeed. She looks perfect. Well she should “ she comes from a great family and her husband is very supportive. If I had those advantages then, well, Id be doing great as well! Susan sighs deeply looking the other woman up and down. Im going to beat her. Ill be better than her no matter what. I should be doing what shes doing. The audience applauds the speaker; Susan misses her cue and stumbles haphazardly onto the stage. She is clearly flustered as she fumbles with her notes but eventually regains her composure.

How many times have you been in this situation where youre so busy focusing on your competition and wallowing in negative thoughts that you loose your own focus? This excursion can seriously sabotage you and be a hazard to your own success. Hey theres nothing wrong with a little competition I hear you say. Yes, youre right about that. However, there are signs to let you know when youve gone too far.

The 2 Telltales Signs Your Competitive Outlook is Hazardous

o You spend more time focusing on what someone has that you dont
o Attaching a conditional belief to being successful

You are placing yourself in a state of lack. This state of lack can be hazardous to you because if LACK is what youre focusing on then LACK is what youll attract. The plain and simple truth about the Law of Attraction is that whatever you focus your attention on will manifest.

Focusing on lack prevents you from giving the correct attention to your own path. Whats right for someone else may not necessarily be right for YOU. Learn to follow your own internal guidance system (IGS), in other words “ your intuition. By doing so you will maintain your focus.

Also, let me assure you that the conditional beliefs you may be attaching to success will sabotage you without a doubt. You could have the prettiest shoes, the nicest dress, come from a well to do family and have the perfect spouse yet still not be successful. Conditional beliefs are just an illusion we create which prevents us from reaching our highest potential. These are merely indications that you are exhibiting and acting out a limiting belief about what it takes to be successful.

Todays Challenge:
Use your journal to write out the answers to these questions:

1. When have you felt your competitive nature welling up inside you?
2. What is the internal dialog you have around the person you feel most competitive with?
3. How do you feel when you see others succeeding?
4. What insecurity do you feel around succeeding?

Answer these questions and then evaluate yourself: Are you are focusing on lack in yourself and if you are setting up conditional beliefs around your success? If so, then its time to take a step back
