One of the best sources of garbage is paper. In fact, the use paper is one of the most effective ways to contribute to the hazards in our environment. Paper is what fills up 1/3 of all the landfills in the world. Studies have also shown that the paper industry is basically the fourth largest provider of greenhouse gas emissions. Getting rid of our usual ways of utilizing paper therefore, is one great way to help our environment recover from the hazards we put it through.

Using environmental paper is one strong step for us to become more responsible in taking care of our Mother Earth. If everyone will use or even if several will switch to using environmental means then we would all have a healthy environment to which we can live better.

Recycled paper, treeless paper, and other recycled products can contribute highly to the well-being of our environment. Efforts in the office and our homes can be made to lessen, if not totally diminish, the use of paper. And hopefully, others would also be inclined to take action and reduce their own use of paper and switch to environmentally responsible ways to preserve our planet.

In the office for example, instead of using the standard paper for copying, reproduction, custom envelopes and such, why not make use of recycled paper. They are readily available in shops and stationery stores. For more impact, choose 100% post-consumer waste (PCW) paper. Make your envelope printing recyclable and have your printing provider choose recycled paper every time they produce your marketing collateral.

You can also use both sides of the paper to reduce wastage. Use the side without any print as scratch paper or even for memorandums and circulars within the company. In addition, before printing your document, be sure to adjust the settings so you can produce only what you need. Don’t waste paper and ink on unnecessary number of documents. Print only what is needed. You can reproduce again if the need arises. On the other hand, all used documents that you don’t have a need for you can always use for packing and recycled in the paper recycling bin.

At home, rather than use paper napkins, consider dish towels instead. There are also recycled paper towels and napkins that you can buy from supermarkets. When you do your banking and stuff, go online and make your transactions in the Internet. No more asking for electronically produced balance statements. Just view them electronically in your desktop or laptop.

There are still many ways for you to reduce environmental wastage. The key is to make it a habit to be aware and responsible to what’s happening around you. Be responsible for Mother Earth and she will always take care of you and your sons and daughters and great-grandchildren for many years to come
