On a very unconscious level we "vibrate" what we feel. We then emit that vibration into the world around us. It's not unlike the vibration you would feel from the beat of a drum. For some when they hear the beat of the drums playing it just makes them smile and they are attracted to the sound. In the summer the sound of steel drums just makes others want to dance. At football games the sound of a marching band really pumps the crowd up and they become filled with pride for the home team. Individuals relate to the emotion and the vibration of these kinds of drums. In both situations they become surrounded by others who are also attracted to the sound and vibration of those particular kinds of drums. They are literally sharing the vibration.
It's the same with people. If you like or resonate with the vibration of a certain person or group then you'll be attracted to them. There will be a specific association with these folks. Usually it's the same vibration that you personally omit - like is always attracted to like. You have the choice to accept or reject it. But the attraction quality remains the same.
Look around you. What kind of drum beat is going on in your life? Are your friends supportive? Do you have people who inspire you to succeed? Are their mentors in your life that will help you to reach your highest potential? Do you share similar feelings about life?
Yes, I can hear you saying "but":
Aunt Myra thinks women shouldn't go to work.
Grannie tells me that it's unlady-like for me to handle money.
My best friend can't understand why I go to so many seminars and workshops.
Work colleagues are telling me I can't relocate to San Francisco.
Other think I'm greedy when I tell them how much money I want to make.
Ok, time to silence this pronto! Whose life are you living anyway? Theirs or YOURS? I would hope it's your own life! So get out those sticks and start beating the drums. Focus intently on what you do want your life to look like. Hit those drums harder, concentrate, imagine what it will all look like. Now add another set of drums and go nuts: bam bam bam. Eventually others with similar mindsets, beliefs and goals will start showing up in your life as long as you maintain your focus and belief. They will slowly replace the Negative Nellies and Doubtful Dans. While family and cultural beliefs may not change, the level of acceptance will shift. You can say "no way" but unless you believe that it could be possible, you're right, it won't change.
